Optical fiber jumper is used as jump link between fiber device and fiber optic link. It is with protective layer outside and generally used in the connection between optical transmitter and fiber terminal box.

Fiber optic jumper is similar to coaxial cables, but there is no mesh shield with the fiber patch cord. The center of the fiber optic patch cord is glass core with light transmitting function. In multimode fiber, the diameter of the core is 50μm~65μm, roughly same as the thickness of human hair. The diameter of single-mode fiber core is 8μm~10μm. A glass cladding with a lower refractive index than the fiber core is surrounded by the core to keep the fiber in the core and the outside is a thin plastic coat that protects the cladding.

LX.5 is a particularly fiber optic connector with rugged and small outline (SFF), it is specifically designed to meet the field requirements of the cable television industry. Its international usage is very small and the main market is United States. It is a relatively small and high grade optical fiber connector with expensive cost. Similar to E2000 structure, Lx.5 comes with automatic dust-proof cap. It is with compact housing and small ferrule like LC so it is also suitable for high intensity application.
